Good to know: Food is typically eaten with the right hand only. When visiting someone’s home, it’s customary to remove your shoes and avoid stepping on the mat. Senegal is predominantly Muslim, so it’s advisable to dress modestly, avoiding clothing that is too short or revealing.

Haggling: Negotiating prices is common practice, except where prices are clearly displayed, such as in restaurants. A good starting point is to divide the initial price quoted by the seller by three 🙂

Health: No vaccinations are mandatory, but it’s recommended to be up-to-date on vaccinations like yellow fever, typhoid, and hepatitis A and B. Taking anti-malarial medication is strongly advised, especially during the rainy season.

Entry formalities: Passport valid for longer than stay. Visas are not required for stays of less than 90 days.

In your suitcase: Sunscreen, a hat for sun protection, lightweight and comfortable clothing, a swimsuit, and comfortable walking shoes.
