New York | From Michelangelo to Brooklyn

For our fourth day in New York, we’re taking advantage of the sun’s return and milder temperatures (but bundled up warm) to explore Brooklyn on foot, after a dive into Michelangelo’s colorful and fascinating world…

The exhibition Sistine Chapel Exhibition brings visitors face to face with life-size reproductions of the Sistine Chapel frescoes. The proximity to the Renaissance master’s masterpiece is incredible. It’s fascinating to be able to admire every detail so closely: the colors, the expressions of the figures, everything seems to come alive. The explanations also help us to better understand the history and secrets behind these masterpieces. If you’ve never been to Rome, this is a great way to get to the heart of Michelangelo’s genius!

After taking in the sights of the Sistine Chapel, we head for the famous Brooklyn Bridge. On the way, we pass City Hall and the imposing neoclassical architecture of the David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building, a true symbol of New York’s administrative power.

Once in Brooklyn, we set course for the DUMBO neighborhood, a must-see for its unique charm. Formerly an industrial district housing numerous factories, DUMBO has preserved its emblematic red-brick buildings, while becoming one of Brooklyn’s trendiest spots. Its location also offers superb views of the Manhattan skyline.

In the afternoon, we explore the streets of Prospect Heights, an iconic Brooklyn residential neighborhood. This peaceful corner invites you to stroll among the charming brownstones, the townhouses recognizable by their reddish-brown sandstone. Typical of many of New York’s historic districts, these buildings seduce with their elegant facades, stone staircases leading to often ornate doorways, and meticulous architectural details such as cornices and moldings. This classic style perfectly reflects the city’s timeless charm.

During the Christmas season, the Lightscape festival transforms the site into a magical spectacle. As night falls, artistic installations illuminate the aisles, creating a magical, festive atmosphere. It’s a timeless moment, a wonderful way to end the day on an enchanted note before returning to our hotel.
